Overview
Nature Shapes Britannia by Talented (Bengaluru) for Britannia Industries won two Silver Lions (Outdoor and Media) and one Bronze (Media) at Cannes 2025. The campaign featured biodegradable, tree-shaped OOH billboards across Hyderabad, Kolkata, Meerut, and Pune; deliberately placed at sites where branches and foliage obscured the boards, letting trees literally shape the brand's name.
Problem
India is one of the few countries where trees are routinely cut down to accommodate billboard visibility. Britannia, with its commitment to sustainability; plastic neutrality, water stewardship, energy management; needed a campaign that didn't just talk about environmental values but also acted on them.
Solution
Instead of clearing trees for better visibility, Talented actively sought out billboards obstructed by trees across four cities. The agency studied tree contours, growth patterns, and foliage coverage, then designed Britannia's typography to bend, compress, and stretch around each unique tree. All billboards were made from 100% biodegradable cotton. The agency later open-sourced the creative methodology manual, inviting other brands to adopt tree-friendly advertising at those sites.
Outcome
The campaign delivered a credible, visually arresting sustainability narrative; not greenwashing, but design-led proof of Britannia's ESG commitments. The open-sourced manual extended the campaign's cultural impact beyond Britannia, setting a new standard for environmentally responsible outdoor advertising in India.
“Most brands cut the tree for the billboard. Britannia bent the billboard for the tree.”
